I feel a little weird posting these right before I move *out* of Ann Arbor, but since I'll still be around for parts of the fall I thought I'd pitch these:

La Decima Vittima (The 10th Victim)

The Holy Mountain/El Topo, in case you missed it during this year's film festival.

Black Lizard
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063203/

and if you're up for an epic affair -
Don

The Squirm Orchestra will be doing some live music to Svankmajer on August 5th. More on that when I post a schedule - probably Sunday. Get excited.

A few more suggestions: how about some Jan Svankmajer? Every series needs at least some animation, and a collection of his shorts would make me very happy (if I were there).

Also Krzysztof Kieslowski and one of the Three colors trilogy? I have only seen 'Blue' but it was sweet.

And I think more Werner Herzog is never a bad thing.

Also, I give my thumbs up for 'Idiocracy'. When I watched it with Beca I cracked up. Admittedly I had a bit to drink, but thats probably would have been true in the summer at the BB.

Um. I still vote for Dave Chapelle's Block Party, even though it's pretty commercial. That movie makes me pee my pants every time I watch it.

How bout The Tin Drum? Or Marat/Sade? I also love The Ice Storm (too commercial?)

I have seen 'The Gleaners and I' and it is awesome. Highly reccomended. (And totally not related to Debord). It is a very lively documentary by a famous surrelaist director, and it is about her run ins with a few different gleaners in France. Perfect for fans of dumpster diving and mushroom hunting. (The last part about the language teacher is problematic, but it will give you something to argue about).

And why no Debord. Too boring?

I really love that Angel Heart made it onto that list...

I'm drawing a blank for suggestions, but again I'll say Rubin & Ed

There's also Fishing with John... Some of the episodes are definitely better than others - the one with Willem Dafoe is awesome.
